Tree and Bench Tribute Program
The Forest Preserve District offers several options for individuals who wish to make a donation to honor a loved one or commemorate a special event. Each provides a connection with a wonderful natural landscape in one of DuPage County's forest preserves. To arrange for one of these tributes today, please click on one of the six options below.
Please note: Our tree and bench tribute program is currently under review. We will post new information soon.
Over 70 species of native trees grow within DuPage County's forest preserves. These trees provide visual beauty, offer habitat for wildlife and improve the quality of the air. They can also serve as living legacies.
Green Fund $500
Individuals can support the Forest Preserve District's mission of conservation by making a donation to fund plantings and enhanced landscaping throughout the District. Each donation includes an engraved leaf on a recognition board in the lobby of District headquarters in Wheaton and mailed notification to the honoree or honoree's family.
Marker for Existing Tree $1,500
Donors may also choose to work with the District to identify existing trees for tributes. With this option, a marker is placed near the tree, and the Forest Preserve district notifies the honoree or honoree's family.
Marker with New Tree Planting $2,500
A 2.5- 3.5-inch-diameter tree will be planted in the spring or fall in a location mutually agreed upon by the donor and the District. The District will also place a marker near the tree and notify the honoree or the honoree's family.
The benches that line the trails and dot the wide-open spaces of the county's forest preserves encourage visitors to relax and reflect on the surrounding scenic landscapes. The Forest Preserve District strives to find ideal locations for tribute benches, places that satisfy the wishes of the donor and the needs of forest preserve visitors. Each includes a nameplate and mailed notification to the honoree or honoree's family.
Existing Bench $1,000
A nameplate on an existing bench can be a personalized way to mark a favorite place.
Recycled-Plastic Bench with concrete pad $2,500
This durable, ecologically friendly bench can provide a comfortable rest stop for scores of daily visitors.
From time to time, the Forest Preserve District is able to offer special tribute options, such as a bicycle rack, information kiosk or mini shelter, which include corresponding nameplates or markers and mailed notification to the family of the honoree.
