Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County

The Friends of the Forest Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, advances the vision of the Forest Preserve District through philanthropic endeavors. The money it collects through its fundraising efforts helps the District manage the county's prairies, woodlands and wetlands and offer educational and recreational activities countywide.

Friends' Priority Projects

Our Friends' board members and District staff have identified outstanding projects requiring special financial support. Select one of the priority projects below to learn more about the project and its need.

ADA-Accessible Piers — Help Launch More Kayaking Fun!

Support the purchase of two ADA-accessible piers at Blackwell and Herrick Lake forest preserves for all ages and abilities to enjoy boating

  • Project Goal: $40,000 for two piers ($20,000/pier). $6,760.45 raised. 17% to goal

Adopt a Blanding's Turtle — Help Conserve the State-Endangered Blanding's Turtle!

Provide care for a Blanding's turtle hatchling born in August 2017, and support field-monitoring efforts and habitat-enrichment projects. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has led regional efforts to help the Blanding’s turtle for more than 20 years

  • Project Goal: 87 adopted turtles. $14,045.67 raised thus far.
  • Please note: You won’t be able to take your turtle home, but you will be able to name it
  • We also welcome a donation to support the health and habitats for these turtles and other species

Belleau Woods Restoration — Help Restore Belleau Woods Forest Preserve!

Support the removal of nonnative, invasive plants at Belleau Woods Forest Preserve, and revitalize the habitat for one of the only remnant woodlands in DuPage County

  • Project Goal: $42,000. $27,833 raised. 66% to goal

Mayslake Courtyard Restoration — Help Restore a Historic Treasure! 

Continue the courtyard-restoration efforts at Mayslake Peabody Estate 

Mayslake Staircase Restoration — Help Restore a Historic Feature! 

Help us begin the main staircase restoration efforts at Mayslake Peabody Estate 

  • Project Goal: $43,815. $21,414.11 raised. 49% to goal

West Chicago Prairie Restoration — Triple your Impact!

Support the removal of nonnative, invasive plants at West Chicago Prairie Forest Preserve, and revitalize the habitat. Thanks to a Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant, all gifts made up to $7,000 will be 3 to 1 matched. The project will also receive $4,000 for 400 volunteer hours tracked.

  • Project Goal: $7,000. $4,266 raised. 61% to goal
